Nancy Hamilton brings the wisdom of her travels and from living a full multi-faceted artistic life to her vocal style. Her musical choices gravitate to the more unusual and challenging songs, with an ear for minor keys. Her true contralto voice has been described to be as smooth and rich as butter. A versatile stylist, Nancy can swing with a big band, deliver sultry Brazilian bossas in Portuguese followed by her Latin favorites in perfect Spanish.
John Crider, on the piano has been Nancy’s main accompanist since 2004. They first met at a piano bar in Eugene, where John played for many singers during the years he lead the weekly singers showcase at a popular downtown club. He plays in a sensitive lyrical style and soars on the Latin tempos. Bassist Dan Schulte, residing in Portland, Oregon, has appeared on recordings with the likes of Blue Note pianist Andrew Hill, guitarists Jerry Hahn and John Stowell, vocalist Nancy King, Bert Wilson, Gordon Lee, Alan Jones Sextet, and Christopher Woitach. He has appeared at the Monterey, Earshot and Mount Hood Jazz festivals. He has also appeared with the Oregon Symphony and the Portland Opera. His first project as a leader, "Strange Pilgrims", features legendary vocalist Nancy King, New Orleans pianist Matt Lemmler, and saxophonists Dave Evans and Dave Valdez. |
